Today I got to get out of bed. Which means I also got to take those horrible compression sleeves off my legs. I went for a walk around the floor this morning, and got passed by a guy who was well more than twice my age.
Since I was allowed to get up, I decided to brush my teeth in the bathroom, rather than in bed. I washed my face and even put my contacts in. I almost feel like a real person.
But, still no eating or drinking until tomorrow. I was doing fine. The hunger had actually subsided and I was mainly just really thirsty. Now, I am starving. I have a headache that I think can only be cured by actual food.
My tongue is still numb from when I first woke up after the surgery. I’m not sure why it is still numb or when I might expect to get feeling back, but I’m afraid that I will bite it at some point…when I finally get to eat again.
For now, everything appears to be healing the way it should. The scary resident with the bedside manner of a scorpion comes in to check on me every morning and she doesn’t seem to see any problems. I could think of a couple personality improvements I would suggest to her, but I doubt that she would listen.
I am hoping that I will get to eat tomorrow and go home on Wednesday. I’ll keep you posted.
