Well, I have been absent from blog land for too long. Things have been crazy with the house and for me, the absence of a normal schedule has been really difficult.
The middle of last week, I went over to the house to check on the status. The painters were there and they were getting started.
The front room became the staging area. They had primed the walls and were beginning to paint the ceilings.
Jaden wanted a Green Bay Packer room.
Our room will be a calming blue….I’ll need it after this ordeal.
Friday, Tim went straight to the house after work and met with our friends Ben and Amy to work on getting the patio brick pulled up. It is the first step in preparing the back yard for the excavators. And every step that we do ourselves, will save us money. The foundation repair is not covered by insurance.
We salvaged some of them to possibly use next spring when we decide what to do in the back yard.
They were pretty much done by the time I got home from work. We retreated inside and enjoyed a fantastic home made pizza. Amy had made the crust and then she topped it with fresh spinach (from their greenhouse) massaged with balsamic vinaigrette, sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella. It was amazing!
Yesterday was a very busy day. It started out with me and Jaden taking a trip to see our beloved cats and dogs. We took the dogs for a walk and to say they were excited would be a gross understatement.
After the walk, we hung out with the animals for a while.
Then it was time to say our good byes and head back to the house to get to work. We had a great crew: Ben, Preston and Karmen. Even Jaden helped. Karmen and I started in the basement pulling the styrofoam wall insulation off.
There was also a shelving unit that had to be moved.
We needed to do a little bit of demolition along one area.
I really didn’t like the cracks that I found after the wall boards came down.
That is a wet wall. And cold, too.
Jaden pretty much played for most of the day.
There was a lot of work going on outside too. we finally got around to picking up the pile of burned drywall that was sitting in our front yard. We shoveled it into the wheelbarrow and then Ben and Karmen took care of transferring it to the dumpster. In my current state, they won’t allow me to lift anything.
Preston and Ben were working in the back yard to gather up all the lava rocks (I hate those rocks). Then they dug up some plants for me to save and carried the rest to the curb for pick up. Ben understands that I have a minimalist approach to landscaping. I don’t like a lot of plants and I don’t like decorative grass. He saved me some plants that we can put back in next spring. In order to do that, he had to till up a section of my lawn so that we could ‘plant’ the plants and give them a home for the winter.
Oh, and the first coat of paint is up in the two bedrooms and the front room.
Front room. Two walls are the pomegranate color and the others are an ‘almost-white.’
Jaden is absolutely thrilled with his Green Bay Packer room. I am currently on the lookout for Packer sheets and a comforter…or some fabric to have sheets made. Unfortunately, everything I’ve seen is a bit out of our price range.
I really love the colors in our master bedroom, but it makes me hate the carpeting even more.
All in all, a very busy few days. But, we finished everything we wanted to get done over the weekend in the two days. So, today’s plan is to rest. And watch football. And take Jaden trick or treating.
I hope you all have a restful Sunday and I will be back with pics of the halloween party that Tim and went to last night.
