July was my first venture into the Foodie Pen Pal program. I have been reading other blogs of people who participate, and they always seem to get something interesting, so I thought I’d give it a shot. Signing up was easy (and you should do it!), and then I got my pairings (via email). Last week, my box showed up and it was a little like Christmas morning!
I was paired with Hayley (she doesn’t have a blog, but she’s from Boston, and that makes her cool). Hayley did an awesome job on my box. I got this fun bottle of Hint water in Mango-Grapefruit…two of my favorite flavors. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but there was such a light flavor that was so refreshing. It was almost like an aftertaste. I’ve looked for this in local stores, but I can’t find it. I’d like to try some of the other flavors. I really like flavored waters.
I had mentioned to Hayley, that my stomach sometimes gives me problems with gluten…especially when I’m preparing for a long run or race. She sent some great gluten-free goodies. I had never tried the Nut-Thins. I had them the other night as the base for some nachos. I sprinkled a little cheese on them and zapped ‘em in the microwave before covering them with salsa. I was surprised how crunchy they were. And Logan liked them too! I can’t wait to try the risotto. I love anything butternut squash and I’m sure this will be fantastic.
She also sent a couple treats. I love, Love, LOVE Luna Bars. Seriously. The company should really compensate me for how many I eat. And the Lemon flavor is one of my faves. The other bar is a chocolate raspberry bar. Holy Yum! I ate it on the way to school the other day. I seriously wanted about 6 more of them. The small block of chocolate was a dark chocolate/almond/oat/cranberry concoction. I had one bite the first day, one bite the second day, then said ‘screw it’ and finished it the third day. I have a chocolate weakness!
I really enjoyed participating this month. I will definitely do it again!
Now, don’t you wanna join in the fun?! Here are the Foodie Penpals details:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
